Anne Frank House| Amsterdam

Anne Frank’s story is pretty well known worldwide and I remember reading her diary when I was only 15 years old and being already very shocked with all the events. Now 13 years later, visiting The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam had a really big impact on me.

Of course, as we get older we see things differently and understand every little detail, but this was a very special experience that I believe everyone should go through.

The Anne Frank House was established on 3 May 1957 in cooperation with Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father. They are an independent non-profit organisation that runs a museum in the house where Anne Frank went into hiding and their goal is to increase awareness of Anne’s life story all over the world.

We were not allowed to take photos inside and there was no point on doing it because you wouldn’t be able to feel it through the photos. You need to be there and I recommend you do it after reading her diary and the story in her own words. They have a guide during the visit and they will explain everything to you, but I believe it would be more impactful for you if you know the story already and then let the guide be your reminder during the house tour.

PARK| Amsterdam

And more than 10 years later, I went back to Amsterdam. Travelling when you’re little is not the same as when you visit a place as an adult. It’s still as amusing as a child, but your interests are so different. So we came back to Amsterdam for my sister’s 20thbirthday, looking for a nice city break with interesting places to visit and of course, delicious food.

That’s when we found PARK, a hideaway in Oosterpark.

This place has a really cosy and elegant lounge and everything, including the restaurant/bistro area, is so well decorated with plants and minimal design. The fireplace was obviously a big win for us since the weather during our stay in Amsterdam was extremely cold. Even more than in England.

So here’s the wonderful food that we order and that I absolutely recommend you to try if you have the opportunity to visit the restaurant:

We started with pumpkin soup with coconut foam. My sister and my husband both went for the Park Burger (Angus beef with cheddar and truffle mayo). My mom went for the Focaccia Spianate calabrese and Provolone cheese and I’ve ordered the Focaccia Caprese with tomato, mozzarella and pesto. For the dessert, we’ve ordered the caramel brownie.

The service was very quick and professional. It was like this everywhere we went to Amsterdam, which really helped to make this mini holidays amazing.

After lunch, we want for a stroll in the park that I’m pretty sure it’s even more beautiful during summer time with all the sunshine. So we’re certainly coming back and I recommend you to visit this wonderful space very soon too.

My Lisbon Guide| Fábrica dos Sabores

There’s nothing better than taking a Spring break and head to Lisbon, where the weather is way warmer than in London. And you know what my visits to Lisbon mean, more suggestions of places to visit, but specially to eat.

This is the first time I’ve been to Fábrica dos Sabores, an artisan bakery in the city centre. It was Sunday around noon on a very sunny day, which usually means that whenever you go, it will be full of people hanging around. Which makes it harder to find a table anywhere in the city.

But I guess that’s how you prove if a place is good or not. If they can handle the pressure while delivering amazing service, than I’ll most certainly come back.

Fábrica dos Sabores was full, but the staff was very effective and nice. They found us a table straight away and our food didn’t even take 10 minutes to arrive.

I ordered a delicious Bagel with smoked Salmon. I wish I was still eating it right now. My sister went for a great beef burger and my mom tried the light Foccacia, which was quite big, so nothing light about that! And for dessert, I’ll let the photograph speak for itself.

I had a few unfortunate experiences when it comes to restaurants and coffee places on my last visit to Lisbon, but I must say that this was definitely not one of them. Will go back very soon.
