Sort through your inbox until it reaches zero| Minimalism Series

There’s nothing like that feeling of accomplishment after cleaning all of your e-mails and reaching zero on your inbox!

It’s important to have a cleared inbox for several reasons.

  • It makes it easier to be on top of any important tasks.
  • It allows you to reply to coming e-mails straight away without being distracted by old ones.
  • It saves you time when you need to find a specific e-mail on your inbox.

I clean my personal and work e-mail inboxes each morning. It makes me plan the rest of the day better because I know exactly what will be my tasks for that day.

By cleaning my e-mails in the morning I can also make sure that any coming e-mails during the day are replied quicker.

If you’ve never reached zero on your inbox, my advice is to start setting aside 20 minutes a day to start cleaning these up.

While you’re cleaning your inbox make sure you:

  • unsubscribe from unnecessary email marketing. This will also help fight that temptation to spend money on things that you don’t really need.
  • create folders to organise your e-mails. This means the e-mail will leave your inbox but if you need to access it later you’ll be able to find it in a folder.

I notice that this simple habit turned me into a more productive person and I’ve been having compliments on how quickly and effectively I reply to e-mails at work. So I hope my tips will help you improve your performance too.

Empty your handbag | Minimalism Series

Handbags make it so easy to collect stuff that it started being the cause of a lot of back pains. And we’re all aware that a big part of what we have inside our handbags is not even necessary, but we never actually take the time to decluter it. Let’s change that!

vOLUME oNE

First, tip your handbag upside down and watch the dust and debris shower down. Keep in mind that the less you have in there, the less you will have to carry around and the less tired you’ll be.

Get rid of:

  • receipts,
  • sticky notes,
  • loyalty cards that you never use,
  • multiple items like pens and lip balms for example.

Keep at home/office:

  • Anything that you don’t need on that day,
  • Small bags that you use inside your handbag,
  • things that you don’t really need to be carrying all day because you will only need it for a specific time of the day, where you are at the office for example. Leave it there instead.

Start:

  • using self-service tills so you can use all your coins to pay and not carry so much weight;
  • not bringing so many receipts home. Either ask for no receipt, opt for e-mail receipts or recycle it when you don’t need it anymore.
  • taking advantage of all the apps on your smartphone, such as calendar, calculator, notes, lists, etc, and get rid of paper.

I used to be one of those people who would carry plenty of bags to work. My main handbag, my gym bag, my lunch bag, my change-of-shoes bag… and it did not only made it easier to forget things but any trip to work would be stressful, especially when taking the underground during peak times or find a seat on the train where I could fit all my stuff.

I’m very proud to say that I only carry a handbag today, where I can fit all the essentials and I never miss anything. It gives me peace of mind and any journey to work became much more practical.

If you have any other tips to decluter your handbag please leave them in a comment below.

Peggy Porschen Cakes| Review

I’m going to be honest, the reason why I decided to visit Peggy Porschen’s was simply because of the beautiful pictures on Instagram. And I had the feeling that I was going to pay a lot for a crappy-tasteless piece of cake, thinking this was just one of those places in London where you basically pay to take photos and both the service and quality are very poor. But I decided to give it a try anyway, and I’m glad I did.

It was a rare sunny afternoon in beautiful London when my sister and I were looking for new places to visit. Peggy Porschen’s was on my Instagram bookmarks and it was about time that I gave it a try!

After 10 minutes on a queue waiting for an available table (outside), they called our names and we sat. I need to mention that these 10 minutes were actually useful to take these beautiful photos, so not a waste of time, at all.

My sister and I are big chocolate fans so we decided to order a chocolate cupcake and it was simply delicious!

Later I found out that there’s a Peggy’s Cake Academy, a cookery school dedicated to baking, cake decorating and sugar craft. Someone is going to register and that someone might be me!
