Cavalli Gallery&Restaurant

The first Green-Star rated restaurant in South Africa: EQUUS dining at Cavalli Estate.

I found out about this restaurant after being invited for lunch by friends. Situated between Somerset West and Stellenbosch with views of Cape Town to the West and the  Helderberg mountain range to the East. Cavalli is born from a family’s love for Horses, Wine and Cuisine.

Led by local chef Henrico Grobbelaar, who after being Executive Chef at The Twelve Apostles, joined the team behind this restaurant. Cavalli’s approach to cuisine is described as ‘a contemporary take on the classics’.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner 4 days a week, Wednesday through Saturday for relaxed, generous Bistro lunch and Fine-Dining Dinner and Sunday Fine-Dining Lunch.

So here’s what I had for lunch:

Amuse-Bouche: Chicken Liver with Curry.

As a starter I had the “Twelve Pigs” Bresaola, Hens Yolk, hay Ash, Horseradish, Boerenkaas, Daikon, Mulled Red Wine.

As a main I had the Lamb Loin, lamb Neck Tagine, Kidney, Charred Eggplant, Minted, Marrow, Hoisin, Parmesan Veloute.

For dessert I had Chocolate Fondant, Salted Milk, Chocolate Caramel, Chocolate Grit, Chocolate Foam, Cocoa Nib Ice Cream.

After lunch I had the opportunity to visit the Gallery downstairs.

It was a wonderful experience and I will definitely go back!
